Notice from Whaikaha about disability supports. Note the mention of exceptional costs:
Kia Ora whānau
Whaikaha is committed to ensuring that your supports and services remain available to you over the period of the State of Emergency Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Waitomo, Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) and any others that are declared during January and early February 2023.
What this means for you is that you will still be able to access your personal allocation of funding for your usual supports. If there are exceptional costs that can’t be met through community, other government agencies or emergency relief funds then it will be useful to discuss this with your Host provider. They will in turn discuss options with you.
It will also be useful to keep in contact with your NASC (Taikura, Northable, DSL Waikato) and EGL Waikato during this time.
Deaf and disabled people and whānau can contact Whakarongorau Aotearoa, New Zealand Telehealth Services if you need support, text 8988 or call 0800 111 213 – this support line was stood up over the weekend and is specifically available for disabled people. Whakarongorau (formerly Homecare Medical; the specific disability line is under the Covid Disability Section).
